Animal Feed Production

- Dr. Thaddaeus Thompson, Agric-economist.

Feed production is the bed rock of every livestock enterprise. Animals cannot do without feed for a day especially when profit is the sole aim of production. Therefore, the importance of a feed mill in commercial livestock production can never be overemphasized. There are two main types of feed milling machines: the livestock feed production machine and the fish feed production machines. They have some similarities and difference in the mode of operation and components.

Feed takes 60-70% of cost of livestock and fish production. But this cost can be greatly reduced with the presence of a functional feed mill on the farm. With a feed mill, one is able to produce high quality balanced diet for his animals. This will also help to reduce the cost of production as already stated before.

Many of the feeds sold in the market and feed stores are imbalanced and as such do not meet the required nutrient requirements of the animals. The aim of the feed producer is to make profit at all costs. As a result, many feed producing companies use substandard feed ingredients or they deliberately lower the quality of the feed to make more money at the expense of the farmer or buyers. Such farmers will end up not getting the expected result. Therefore, owning your own feed mill should be a priority when planning for commercial livestock and fish production.

The sole aim of running a feed mill as a farm owner is to reduce cost of production. Because the ultimate goal of every farm is get maximum output from minimum input. At KACS, the feed mill stands as an enterprise of its own even though we produce all the feed consumed by our livestock in the feed mill. We run the feed mill as a business of its own where we produce all livestock feed for farmers. We have all the components to produce poultry feed, goat feed, snail feed, pig feed, rabbit and grasscutter feed.

To produce feed for any animal, one must know the nutritional requirements for that animal and the right ingredients to be used and the right proportion or percentage of each ingredient in the formulation to meet the requirements for maintenance, growth and production. Feed formulation goes beyond just getting different feed ingredients and mixing them up together. The feed ingredients must first pass IUPAC standards and the amount of protein and carbohydrate required for the feed must be properly analyzed before the actual formulation is done. Feed formulation is achieved through parson’s square method, trial and error method and lastly by arithmetic calculations. There is a lot more to it than meets the eye. It is a complex analysis that requires attention to details on every step of the formulation.

KACS is a young but fast-growing company, as such, we don’t have our brand name for the feeds yet. Therefore, we currently use other feed and garri bags to bag our feed and supply to farmers. For instance, when a client calls and indicate interest any of our feeds, we get empty feed and garri bags to bag the feed and send via waybill. We guarantee the quality of our feed based on performance. We deliver nationwide at a very affordable price. Make your order today for your livestock feed.

We use locally available materials for our feed production to prevent running out of feed. We also make sure of the quality of the feed ingredients used. Our aim and goal are to produce high quality feed to enhance fast growth with all organic and natural feed ingredients with no additives.

KACS can help you setup a profitable feed mill business.
